AND NOW
by Edie Schmoll
And Now I have left the wasted midsummer,
that long season of madness—
that was not a true God’s summer
but ever, ever a sadness.
And I have pondered the slow falling time
of a lonely dark season—
in that black creeping foliage
past the balance of reason.
And I have climbed a lofty peak
of misty, fog-shrouded snow—
and crossed a stark grey desert
where burning dead rivers flow.
And Now is Infinity before me
in the soft glow of the sea—
and Now I travel not alone,
as you are beside, beside me.
